Many Cigna health insurance plans help cover substance abuse and behavioral health treatment for teens. Because early intervention is critical, utilizing insurance can make essential care financially viable. While Cigna provides coverage for drug rehab in Arizona, benefits typically require the treatment program to meet strict clinical standards and utilize evidence-based therapies.
Artemis Adolescent Healing Center in Tucson accepts many forms of Cigna insurance, reducing out-of-pocket costs compared to many teen facilities. Artemis involves parents throughout the recovery process, combining clinical excellence with clear financial peace of mind.

Assessing Cigna Rehab Coverage for Teens in Residential Treatment and Outpatient Programs
It’s vital that individuals and families have the resources they need to pay for substance abuse treatment. Especially for teens, an age group where early intervention is both possible and essential, getting help is critical. For many, insurance is what makes treatment viable.
Cigna health plans help people cover a range of health care services, including mental and behavioral health services.
So, does Cigna cover teen rehab in Arizona? Yes. But this doesn’t mean they’ll cover treatment at any rehab center for any program.
For insurance to cover rehab costs, programs must meet certain standards. For example, the therapies used must be proven effective. Furthermore, not every treatment center accepts Cigna health plans. We accept Cigna health insurance and are here to help.
At Artemis Adolescent Healing Center, we hold ourselves to the highest standards. Our team uses the most up-to-date, evidence-based treatments. Parents are involved in their child’s care–never left in the dark.

All treatment options at Artemis Adolescent Healing Center are covered by Cigna plans.
Residential Inpatient Rehab for Teens
Teens in our residential inpatient treatment program live on-site at our home-like center from their admission date to their discharge date. Staff members are present 24/7. Youth in this program participate in a highly structured treatment schedule, consisting of:
- Daily group therapy.
- Individual therapy sessions.
- Family therapy (if possible).
We have many amenities and healthy recreational activities for teens to enjoy outside of therapy sessions. Fresh, nutritious meals and snacks are provided. Family visitation is allowed.
Partial Hospitalization Programs
Partial hospitalization day programs (PHPs) are a type of outpatient treatment. They’re highly structured. The amount of therapy your teen receives will be very similar to that of a residential program. However, youth in PHP sleep and live at home during the program.
Some enter PHP as an alternative to teen residential treatment. Others step down to PHP after finishing teen residential treatment. Your teen’s starting level of care, and how long programs last, will depend on their unique needs and circumstances.
Intensive Outpatient Treatment Programs
Our intensive outpatient programs for teens are the next step down from PHP. The program has a significantly lower time commitment than PHP. Teens in this level of care come to therapy at Artemis a few hours per day on treatment days.
This is an ideal choice for teens who need (and are able to) balance substance use disorder treatment with other obligations, like a typical school schedule. Again, it can act as a starting level of care, or it can be part of a step-down approach.
Alternative Payment Methods and Sliding-Scale Rates
Aside from insurance coverage, Artemis accepts several other payment methods. If your family needs help covering out-of-pocket teen drug rehab costs, here are some options.
- Scholarships and grants. In Arizona and nationwide, there are drug rehab and mental health treatment scholarships that help people cover treatment costs. These are great options because you don’t have to pay anything back. It can be hard to know where to start – we’re here to help you find scholarships or grants if needed.
- Sliding-scale rates. Sliding-scale rates are income-based. Our team will lower treatment costs as much as we can based on your household income.
- Payment plans. We offer payment plans that let families make small, manageable payments over the course of time.

Starting a Teen Treatment Program Using Cigna at Artemis

Artemis strives to make the intake process straightforward. Here’s a little bit about what your family can expect when starting a treatment program at our center.
Verify Insurance Coverage
First, you’ll call us and verify your child’s Cigna coverage. All you’ll need is their health insurance card or information, including their plan name and policy number. Usually, it takes just a few minutes.
If there are any problems (e.g., claims denied), we’ll contact Cigna directly. We’re here to provide additional information and documentation regarding your child’s case to help them get treatment or to assist your family in any other way we can.
Complete a Pre-Intake Call
After your child’s Cigna benefits are verified and their care is confirmed to be covered, it’s time for a pre-intake call. This is a brief, commitment-free phone call where we’ll learn more about your child’s needs, talk about their treatment options, and discuss how we can help.
Comprehensive Intake Evaluation
Comprehensive intake evaluations are crucial for teens entering treatment for substance abuse and mental health conditions. Mainly, these involve:
- Seeing a healthcare provider (e.g., their primary care physician) for a medical evaluation.
- Completing a verbal interview (about current symptoms, past experiences, and anything else relevant to their care).
This alerts you and us about any possible medical complications a child might be facing. It also helps us find the best approaches to care for their needs.
Program Start Date
Once the intake evaluation is complete, your family will get a program start date. We’ll go over everything you and your teen need to know. For example, what they should bring to treatment (if entering residential inpatient care). Then, it’s time to begin treatment.
Clinical Excellence at Artemis and What to Expect From Our Cigna Rehab Programs

Artemis Adolescent Healing Center prioritizes clinical excellence and compassionate, person-centered care. Our approach to treatment and dedication to serving our community sets us apart.
Dual Diagnosis Care for Mental Health Disorders
There is a high prevalence of co-occurring mental and behavioral health conditions in youth affected by substance use disorders.[1] Many teens entering alcohol and drug rehab have one or more co-occurring mental health concerns. For example:
- Anxiety disorders.
- Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
- Bipolar disorder.
- Self-harm behaviors.
- Eating disorders.
- Depression.
- Personality disorders.
- Trauma and PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder).
We provide dual diagnosis treatment that is typically covered by Cigna, whether in part or in whole. An integral part of our whole person approach, dual diagnosis care at Artemis Adolescent Healing Center addresses substance use and mental health simultaneously.
Our treatment facility works with all of these conditions and others affecting teens in our inpatient and outpatient drug rehab programs. Research shows that this supports better health outcomes.[2]
Master’s and Doctorate Level Medical and Mental Health Providers
Who will be working with your teen? Artemis has a team of highly qualified, licensed clinicians on our staff. These include, but are not limited to, master’s- and doctorate-level therapists, psychiatrists, and nurse practitioners.
Families are welcome to see proof of staff licensure and qualifications. It’s important to know that your child’s in good hands.
Collaborative, Trauma-Informed Care
Trauma-informed care acknowledges the impacts of trauma.[3] It focuses on identifying strengths and avoiding retraumatization.
We collaborate with families while taking a trauma-informed approach that supports teens and helps them find what works.
Highly Personalized Treatment Plans
All teens in our mental health and substance use treatment programs get individualized treatment plans. This makes it possible to:
- Address other mental health concerns.
- Use specific therapeutic interventions (e.g., trauma-focused therapies) that fit their needs.
- Choose the right starting level of care and treatment trajectory.
We’ll work with your teen and family to adjust their care plan as they make progress.
Evidence Based Treatments

Our teen mental health and addiction treatment programs use the most up-to-date, scientifically backed therapies. Treatment plans at Artemis are comprehensive. We use a combination of different therapies so that teens get a thorough, effective set of skills. For example:
- Dialectical behavior therapy.
- Cognitive behavioral therapy.
- Acceptance and commitment therapy.
- Motivational therapies (e.g., motivational interviewing).
- Supportive treatments and activities (e.g., art therapy, exercise).
- Trauma therapy.
If applicable, providers are available for medication management.
